Early Life 

Courtney Grace Lawless was born to Charles Joseph and Grace Marie Lawless on September 9, 1878 in Custer, Dakota Territory. Her mother passed away from complications in childbirth leaving an isolated Charles to raise Courtney on his own. Courtney has no other extended family that she is aware of leading her to a consistent state of loneliness. Her father was too busy working and keeping order as the local Sheriff to spend much time with her, although he did adore her and dote on her when he could make the time.
