    Description

Huxley is a tall, thicker man built from working out in the mines. He has hazel-brown eyes and short cropped brown hair. Huxley rarely is seen out of his black and yellow vest with workworn green pants and boots, and his tattered flatcap. He often keeps a smaller gold pan hanging off his hip to test water for color when he so fancies. Huxley has a jagged scar coming down from his hairline, and cutting across the bridge of his nose. Certainly isn't his only scar, but its the most visible, usually. Huxley isn't known for his longwinded speeches, often standing quietly in groups to allow them to talk around him.

Huxley's most notable features (in his humble opinion) are Totter the Dog and Brian the Horse. Totter being a Catahoula Cur and Brian a large splashed paint Cob, their colorations are more often the herald of Experience's approach than Experience himself.

    Early Life

Experience Huxley grew up in the Quaker community of a small Midwestern town. Born to Solomon and Truth Huxley as their eldest under a different name, Experience often had the harshest rules, took care of his younger siblings as they cropped up, fed the animals, and the like. He was a second parent to his younger siblings, though as time went on, he and Prosperity became thick as thieves, often taking care of all the barn chores together. Once they were finished, they'd head over to the neighbor's house, where Dignity Truman's family lived. Dignity was the only daughter of the Truman household, and was glad of the help freely given from the Huxley's.

As Experience grew older, he grew more aware of himself and told his family at the age of 9. After some talks with the church, the Quakers re-dubbed him 'Experience' from his previous name, and started treating him accordingly without reservation. "God works in mysterious ways" after all, and at the time, the Huxley's didn't have someone to carry on the family name after both Prosperity and Chastity were born. Solomon and Truth were more than happy with this new arrangement, as they could foist a bigger amount of chores and responsibility on their new son. And so, Experience entered his preteens with heavier and heavier burdens, allowing him to grow into his family-bred height as a muscular man.

Experience took his new name to heart, and began seeking out past times outside what was allowed the strict Quaker community, devoid of such 'unnecessary' music and art. Pretending to be working at a schoolyard friend Abner Baker (non-Quaker), he instead was learning how to play the piano from Abner's mother. He paid her in the extra chicken eggs he smuggled out of the family coop. There was a second reason Experience so loved these outings: it allowed him to get closer to Abner, who he was developing a deep crush on... and watching Abner paint was quickly becoming a favorite sin of Experience's.

This, unfortunately, didn't last longer than a year. Experience's egg thefts and time away from the home were becoming more noticeable as his finishing of his chores lagged later and later in the day. Eventually Experience would arrive at the Baker household, only to be informed by Abner's mother that he was no longer allowed inside the house. He'd return home to the knowing looks of his parents, but there was no further discussion of his transgression. Truth redirected these youthful energies back towards the church, where he'd continue his piano practice with only church-approved hymnals. He never was allowed to watch Abner paint again. The Huxley's simply turned the other cheek, and adjusted Experience's schedule to prevent any further escape outside the community.

Experience was nearly in his twenties when he realized the pressure was on to marry Dignity. They were being shepherded into the same (responsibly chaperoned) chores, same church work, same sitting room when the community came together. Dignity had escaped marriage thus far due to her mother's large family -- in some way, Dignity was uncomfortably closely related to all the other eligible bachelors in town. It was either Experience or his younger brother Joseph Huxley (who had just been born a few years prior). Dignity would otherwise have to seek another community for a husband.

The pressure was too much. Experience gathered all his things together, stole from the family saving jar and escaped. His life thereafter would be filled with regretful choices, regretful meetings with regretful people, and time spent building a successful mining company. He'd return home once more after these misadventures at the age of 32, summoned by a telegram from Dignity. Joseph had been run over by a plow, his leg mangled, and was asking only for him. Unable to resist his baby brother's call, Experience returned home.

It was clear when he arrived what was being asked of him. Joseph was in horrible pain, and everyone in the community could see it. Once again, the Quaker community's silent pressure was on Experience's shoulders, to ask him to do something that they could not do, not if they wanted to maintain their life thereafter. He and Joseph had a few joyful days talking and getting to know each other as grown men, before Joseph suddenly passed away one night while Experience was at his bedside. After the funeral, Experience was approached by Solomon, who informed his son that he was excommunicated. Experience left with a 3 month old Totter in tow.

Further bad decisions would follow after, leading Experience to flee from them (and his company), and turn to New Alexandria.

    Present Life

Experience spends his days in New Alexandria at the mines, or a riverbank panning for gold. At Elinor Doyle and Rush Klein's cajoling, he's slowly made friends, and even gotten a new job. He has reached out to acquaintances of his old ties with mixed results.
