Description
Early Life
Virgil Tubbs is a transplant from Newellton, Louisiana. Raised in squalor, he and his 5 siblings lived in a dirt floored shack on the outskirts of plantations in the area. His mother, Edith Tubbs, was a housekeeper for one of the wealthier families in the area. His father worked on the Mississippi River and sent whatever money he could back to the family. He was a veteran of the Civil War and sustained injuries that left him with a limp for the rest of his life. Virgil, the second oldest, began working on the plantations at the age of 10. As he grew older and bigger, Virgil began to take security jobs for the local wealthy families as his size was intimidating and his proficiency with a gun was known.
At 16, tragedy struck his family. His older sister was assaulted and subsequently died from the violent attack that took place at a local restaurant in town. The crime was glossed over by police and the attacker was never found by the authorities. Virgil, not satisfied with this result, decided to investigate the situation himself and ended up bringing the killer to justice at the local sheriff’s office. The killer confessed and a witness was found who supported the claims. Tubbs was forever changed by this. The helpless feeling he and his family had while nothing happened to the man that viciously attacked and killed his sister left a permanent mark on him. Since then, he has taken up various bounty hunting contracts but they all left him unfulfilled. Now, with a new start in New Alexandria, he is looking to move on from bounty hunting and take on a role in law enforcement as a sheriff’s deputy in hopes that it further enables him to bring justice to the lawless.
Present Life
Tubbs has been with the NASD since August 1899. He has progressed from recruit through the ranks and now holds the title of detective. He loves his work family as it has been basically all the family he has known in recent time. He has been friends with Molly Oak, formerly Wong, since coming to the state. He looks out for her and her children as though they are family, regardless of who may take issue. He has also recently began looking after a young girl named Hazel Holly who he protects and guides. She is a runaway from some sort of orphanage or boarding house which was very abusive. He now stays in a few places around the state that she calls home now as well.
