Description
As he has come to be known, Arthur is the tall and gaunt man often seen wearing his black flatcap walking the streets of Saint Denis, or riding his horse bareback around Lemoyne. Standing at six feet tall, Arthur carries himself with a rigid, soldierly posture and almost always has a cigarette in his hand. A faded scar traces the bridge of his nose, indicative of a message once delivered by Remnants. On the front of his right shoulder, another scar is found; an old stab wound from a prior life across an ocean. Many have described him as having an intense stare and presence.
Early Life
Arthur Macmillan was born in the heart of the United Kingdom, spending much of his childhood in the streets of Warwick; a municipal borough connected to Birmingham, Oxford and London by railway. The Great Western Railway had constructed a main line through Warwick, providing an expectation that the town would boom along with the rest of the Industrial Revolution, but that was not the case. Only minor industrial activities, such as hat making, had developed and many residents were left disappointed. No express trains served the town, stopping at the nearby Leamington Spa railway station instead. Arthur grew up in an impoverished family, losing his father at a young age and his mother shortly after reaching adulthood.
Circumstances throughout his childhood led Arthur to buy into a healthy amount of superstition, though he rejected the notion of any real "higher power." He dreamt of amassing his own fortune and reputation, often commenting to his siblings and comrades how he "wanted to be different," growing tired of lard and bread while he watched others eat robust cuts of meat and arrays of fruit and vegetables. He kept an early ambition of wanting to be a horse breeder, marveled by the creatures as they ran through fields and pulled carts down the streets. Living an impoverished life, however, had not provided much opportunity to pursue this dream and led to a childhood filled with less reputable antics.
Following misfortune and facing a crossroads, Arthur flipped a coin and decided to enlist in the British Army; an endeavor in which he was followed by his good friend Jarad Devlin. They were ultimately deployed to Southern Africa, engaging in what would later be known as the Second Boer War. Arthur was a good soldier, earning rank and respect amongst his comrades. His time in the Army did not end well, though - and rather abruptly. Arthur was never shy about his opinions of the cavalry and Generals. Rather than facing consequences of an action he took, Arthur accepted a proposition to come to America and soon after found himself arriving in Saint Denis, New Alexandria.
Present Life
Upon settling himself in New Alexandria, Arthur dedicated himself to studying business law and establishing his own operations. He created the Macmillan Employment Agency, and East Haven Security, with intent to provide labor opportunities and bring power to the working peoples of this state; while also offering protections to employees and his business affiliates. One of East Haven's most notable and cherished contracts is for the Gold Bar, its proprietor Mr. Rush Klein.
Before long, having centralized his efforts in Saint Denis and Lemoyne, Arthur became acquainted with known gangs in the area, butting heads with a few and earning himself some scars in the process. In the end, he felt some respect had been earned and his business endeavors were able to flourish. People were helped to find more work.
Following conversations with the Committee of Business, operating under Governor Anne Wright at the time, Arthur and his staff set to work hosting a job fair to showcase employment opportunities around New Alexandria and created the Macmillan Business Directory, taking inspiration from Mr. Timothy O'Boyle. These aspirations presently continue, the efforts renewed following Arthur's term as a State Representative - appointed by Governor Imogene Harrison with approval of the 14th Legislature, serving with Lee Colt and Josephine Church.
Arthur accredits much of his business success to his business partners, Vera Riese and Elizabeth Sutherwick. Vera was offered part ownership of East Haven Security, and Elizabeth Sutherwick has become Arthur's fiancée. The majority of Macmillan Company's business endeavors now operate out of Braithwaite Manor and the surrounding area.
