  • Founding of the Department of Prisons

    Summary

The Department of Prisons is an organization committed to the punishment and rehabilitation of criminal offenders in order to send them back to society, ready to be integrated. The Department has several programs available for this rehabilitation. It is a department filled with many walks of life who all believe in second chances, and having time to grow and show positive change. While the Department of Prisons is an extension of the executive, their department works with violent, defiant, and aggressive inmates day in and day out, which has sharpened their tools of the trade to not only have minimal tolerance of the said behaviors, but to react in the language some only seem to be able to understand, and that was violence. Many inmates now understand the pain, suffering, and the cost of being a criminal, many keep their head down, doing their work in hopes of getting a good behavior snack, or something more than just stale bread and barely passable water. Sisika is truly hell to be at, and the Department of Prisons is both the gatekeeper, and the enforcers of that hell some find themselves in.

    History

The Department of Prisons was established by "The Department of Prisons Act of 1901". Before then, the Prison was operated by Warden Hannah Holland, whom made strides to get the prisons foundation established and prepared. However, Warden Holland was tragically killed by the cannibal known only as Tobias Plimmft, and the future of the Penitentiary was in question. Assistant Warden Petra Blackhart stepped up and took the reigns of the department following Holland's death, and made great strides to make it a place to work, as well as make it a powerhouse of financial gain for New Alexandria, while emphasizing rehabilitation amongst the inmates.

During her tenure as Warden, Petra Blackhart hired many Watchmen, including current Warden Olivia Howard, and helped establish many policies, standard operating procedures, handbooks, and documents for conducting the duty of a Sisika Watchman. Warden Blackhart also established wages for inmates in the Prison, allowing them to make something of a livable wave whilst contributing greatly to state coffers. These wages made inmates less likely to reoffend immediately once they got out of Sisika, as most of Sisika's every day traffic is store robbers and general thieves.

Overtime the Prison fashioned itself into a reputable institute, as well as creating programs like the Sisika Rehabilitation Program, which was headed by Olivia Howard and Evaline Sanderson in order to create a way for inmates truly trying to change their lives, to have access to all the resources they'd need in order to be successful and get back out into the real world and truly turn a new leaf. After around a year of being the acting, and official Warden of Sisika, Petra Blackhart chose to resign to pursue a career elsewhere, having had her fill of the Prison and it's struggles of building, she passed the Prison along to the current Warden, Olivia Howard.
