Early Life 

Luella was born in South London to parents Edward Howard Hunter and Ophelia Mary Hunter, nee McGuire, she was an only child as Ophelia could no longer have children after Luella was born. Ophelia doted on Luella very much, spoiling her as much as she could and also home tutoring her. Edward was somewhat of a ‘handy man’ he would do any little job that he could find, mostly repairs and painting and decorating for the wealthy in London, he made a name for himself after repairing a plaster rose on one of the ceilings in Buckingham Palace. They were not a rich family, but her father earnt enough that they could live comfortably and without worry.

Two days after Luella turned ten, her mother was taking ill with fevers. The doctor could not help, and the fevers burnt until three days later, Ophelia passed away. Grief hit Luella and her father like a train, and it was only a downward spiral from then on.
