    Origins - 1898

Birth of a New Gang - Gold Hill

The Miller Gang's roots were originally formed by childhood friends of Dallas Miller and Gerard LaCroix.

At the age of 18, Dallas had managed to convince his best friend Gerard LaCroix and close friends Joshua West and Lindsey Hall to join him at first for small petty crimes revolving around stealing gold from the mining depots. Out of fear of being caught, Dallas volunteered to use his name as being the mastermind behind the thefts to cover and avoid harsher punishments for his friends. Of course, word had got out that gold had been stolen and Dallas was brought in to be interrogated, though with lack of evidence was released. The gold they had stolen was sold off to a fence whom rewarded them fairly handsomely for the amount that they had stolen, allowing the gang to purchase themselves some better horses and weapons.

The local newspaper had dubbed Dallas and his accomplices the "Miller Gang" which would spark the interest of some of the like minded youth in the town. It was then that they met Bryan Langford, Thomas Harvey, Brock North and Thomas's sweetheart, Annabelle Winters.

The group had now expanded grossly for the small town of Gold Hill and they had decided it was safer to find a larger score out west. As they began to pack up their supplies and prepare for the long journey to California, the Miller Gang managed to pick up some last minute members. Brock's best friend Kristian Scheving, an Icelandic giant whom fit the description of a modern viking to a T. During these introductions, Gerard pulled Dallas aside to introduce him to another discernible candidate, Benny Hitchcock. A doctor in training whom would become the Gang's medical expert which was an extremely beneficial role for the Miller Gang down the line.

    The Gold Rush - Reno

Travelling from Gold Hill to Reno was only a rough trip of 1-2 hours on horseback, which was rather decent timing for the gang. While enroute, Dallas and Gerard began to discuss the plans for their next score in the little city. Both of them were addicted to the thrill and the rewards that came with it. By the time they had arrived in Reno, they had already found a perfect place to set up camp on the city's outskirts and a plan to rob the entire city blind.

The Gang would go on to con people out of their money either by attempting to sell shares for fake mining companies or setting up lonely men by luring them into bedrooms with an escort, which also had the gang in the room ready to rob the men blind.

While it was bigger than Gold Hill, it didn't take long for the Miller Gang's reputation to become more of a hindrance in Reno, especially for the law. They had only been in the city for little under a month and it was time for them to get ready to pack up, though not before doing one final big job to leave a long lasting impression on the city and leaving the gang wealthy.

Gerard discussed a plan with Dallas and the rest of the gang regarding a shipment of tiny 10oz gold bars being transported on a supply wagon to Sacramento, the plan would be to intercept the wagon just on the outskirts of town and steal the gold before anyone would be the wiser.

The plan was set into motion the next morning. The gang was up early and preparing themselves for the heist to be pulled off, Dallas and Gerard decided to vote on sending Thomas and Bryan up ahead to scout out the roads to make sure that the plan would still be manageable. Upon their return, the pair of scouts informed the gang that the transport wagon had far more hired guns than anticipated and that they should call it off. Gerard disagreed, confident in the gang's abilities to pull this off, they pushed on with the plan.

Setting up Brock and Kristian on a ridge nearby the road to provide overwatch, the rest of the gang made their way down and awaited for the transport to turn the bend where they could bushwhack them. A tense standoff occurred between the Miller Gang and the transport group, the hired guns equally matching the gang's numbers. Threats were tossed both ways before a firefight ensued between the two groups.

Despite the odds, the gang was able to secure a satchel full of gold bars, but the contents of the wagon clearly offering more. Time was of the essence during the gun battle, both sides receiving casualties but thankfully most of them were non-lethal. It was only when another group of hired guns came speeding around the bend that the gang decided to cut their losses and make a hasty escape. As they rode with speed through the valley, Bryan Langford was shot in the back and slumped off his horse. Without confirmation on his actual state, the gang had no choice but to leave him behind.

This was the first time that the gang had suffered a genuine loss in their numbers, but certainly wouldn't be the last.

Hiding In Plain Sight - Sacramento

With the law certainly on their backs, the gang thought it would be smart to lay low in Sacramento until they decided on where they would head next.

Taking their time to lick their wounds, Benny patched up the wounded members from the prior heist. They hadn't even had a chance to mourn the potential loss of Bryan. Dallas and Gerard both reassuring one another to keep themselves from panicking in front of the gang and creating disarray. Deciding to leave Sacramento alone for the time being, the gang took this time to recuperate and hold a small ceremony for Bryan.

The gang decided they would only stay in the city for two days before making their way down to Los Angeles. Hitchcock informed the gang of a potential bank job down there that would be enough for them to live the rest of their lives comfortably.

The Wells Fargo Heist - Los Angeles

The journey to the city of angels was one of hellish memory. The Gang made several pit stops to collect water in the small shanty towns on the way. Most of them were exhausted from the lack of sleep and the constant packing up and moving to reach their destination. When they finally arrived in the city, they set up a camp and that was to be their home for the next few weeks at the very least while they planned out the bank job more thoroughly.

While they planned out the heist, they determined that the bank itself was in a fairly busy portion of the city and it wouldn't be possible to attempt this heist at night due to the level of security and the reinforced metal vault which would take too long to crack open. They decided the best move was to move in loud and fast, though with how narrow the street was, it was a cause for concern with too many spots to get pinched.

The day of the heist came fast, the crew had gathered just a block away from the bank to prepare. Kristian and Brock were once more set up across the street from the bank on a balcony to provide sniper coverage. Thomas would be a lookout and gunman if the law showed up too early, Dallas and Gerard would focus on the vault, Joshua, Annabelle and Lindsey would focus on crowd control while Benny would be the getaway driver with the wagon.

As the heist commenced, everything had seemed to be going to plan and timing couldn't have been any better. The bank manager complied and worked on opening the vault while the rest of the crew were doing their respective parts for the job to go smoothly. Though just like anything in life, there will always be unpredictable factors. No matter how much planning was done, the gang didn't take into account that an off-duty lawman happened to be inside the bank. A loud crack from a concealed firearm echoed inside the bank and out into the streets, a single bullet had been put into the back of Gerard's head.

What happened after this single shot would become the downfall of the gang entirely. In a panic, Joshua put several bullets into the off-duty lawman. Creating an even bigger scene outside and at this point they hadn't gotten into the vault yet. Dallas furiously rushing the bank manager to get the vault open, the law didn't take long to respond to the gunshots from inside the bank.

Another firefight ensued outside the bank between the law and the outside gang, only adding pressure on the ones inside. Dallas at this point conflicted on whether to cut their losses and just take the money they'd gotten from the tills or push forward with the plan. Continuous gunshots went off outside, it was gradually turning into a bloodbath, though what really turned the tides was when the law had managed to sneak up on Brock and Kristian in the balcony, immediately attempting to detain them. Brock choosing to rather go out in a youthful blaze of glory, refused to be taken alive, being blown back by the impact of a bullet to the chest and falling over the balcony to his unfortunate demise. Kristian being struck in the arm by a bullet caused him to drop his rifle and he was subdued before he could make any lethal attempts against the arresting officers.

Meanwhile inside the bank, the manager had got the vault doors open and told Dallas the codes for the safes. Working with haste to crack them open with the combinations provided, he had to micromanage and think on his feet. Getting Lindsey to assist him with filling their satchels with the cash they would need. It took only a minute or two before they went to make their escape.

The firefight outside continued to escalate, Thomas now being alone and having to fend for himself alongside Benny. The two were quickly assisted by the inside gang as they were making their escape but unfortunately during the crossfire and exchange of bullets, Thomas was riddled with bullets. Annabelle unable to process the loss of her other half, stuck in a trance, Dallas had to push her to the getaway wagon.

The continuous shots being fired between the gang and law, another bullet managed to find itself in the side of Benny's neck, causing the man to slump off the wagon. Joshua having adrenaline pumping through his veins, immediately took initiative while the others continued to provide suppressing fire, rushing to make their escape.

As they managed to lose the tail of lawmen after them, they stopped at their camp to split up their earnings. Dallas explained that they'd have a better chance of holding out if they all split up, and so it was decided that the gang would do so.

    Rebuilding - 1899-1900

    The Hothead - Santa Barbara

Being already in the state of California, the logical approach for Dallas in his mind was to start recruiting locally to where he was laying low. While checking out of a hotel, he noticed a bar across the street from where he had just been and decided to grab one for the road. While inside the bar, he was hassled by an Australian man who was interested in Dallas's baggage on his horse.

A bar fight ensued between them and left both of them equally rocked and disorientated. The man in question was no other than Phill Cooper, a brutal and ferocious Australian man who showed extreme promise to Dallas. Despite the Aussie's hotheaded and unpredictable nature, he was reliable and perfect muscle for someone that Dallas could use for jobs. After offering Coops long term wealth, it didn't take much convincing to get Coops in on working in The Miller Gang, money drove him, same as Dallas.

The Jeweller's Son - New York City

During a short trip to New York City, Dallas was told that it was home to criminals and outlaws and that finding recruits wouldn't be difficult. Though it was failed to mentioned that the dangers of the city would be at the forefront of his problems while remaining there. During a shady poker game, he met a player at the table. A jeweller by the name of Gio Barzini and a prodigy in the making. After cleaning out the others are their table, it was down to Dallas and Gio, with mutual respect shared between them just based of their stares, they agreed to going into business together and splitting the profits they had already earned.

This angered some of the players at the table as they felt they had just been scammed which insued into a physical altercation. Having Coops and Gio now on his side, the poker table brawl was a quick one. Having the trio running out with the money they had just earned from the game and stashing it for safekeeping on future endeavours.

    The Dame - Atlantic City

One of Gio's contacts from New York City had provided some information entailing of a woman by the nickname Vicky O.K. who was well known for her opportunistic scores located in Atlantic City. The three members decided to spend what money they had to follow up on the tip and it was here that they met no-other than Victoria O'Kelly, a elegant british woman with expensive tastes similar to Dallas.

During their stay in Atlantic City, Victoria had provided the three with a high stakes job entailing robbing the Atlantic City's treasury. Already providing them with a full plan, inside men for the job and forged papers. Dallas was thoroughly impressed with the woman's keen attention to detail and planning, and took her into the gang for those set of skills.

When the treasury heist took place, Victoria's plan was a clean escape with none left the wiser. Not a single bullet was fired and the law hadn't been on their heels until the next morning.

It was time to move again. To get the law off their scent, the gang from the heist (some members unnamed) all agreed it was best if they split up for at least a month.

With a new crew put together, the Miller Gang was back at full strength, focusing their sights on the state of New Alexandria and being promised a fortune in this new state. The Gang were all sent letters to come join Dallas for work.
