History
Friday the 13th of October 1902 is when Clara’s business started taking form, The Travelling Bookshelf became an official business on the 15th October, only two days after. Friday the 13th wasn’t so unlucky after all.
The idea of The Travelling bookshelf came to Clara just a few days after she arrived in New Alexandria. She got an idea to write a book and needed a way to show it to the world. So she started her own bookstore business that travels to the customer. Her business will allow authors from all over to publish and sell their books.
The first advertisement made for The Travelling Bookshelf was made by Clara herself. Advertising her three books, Wild Poppy, Little Poems and Learning to Read Volume 1. She also made the logo for the business herself. But had her dear friend Lip Darmon make some much nicer advertisements for her in 1903.
Once when Clara was sending a public telegram advertising her business she accidentally called it “The Travelling Nookshelf” instead of Bookshelf. Lip Darmon reminds her from time to time that she made that mistake, and they of course laugh about it.
The Travelling Bookshelf only sold a few books made by the owner Clara herself until the Governor during the time, Sasha Stroganov generously donated 10 of his own books to the business in October, 1902. It is around that time that The Travelling Bookshelf started selling many more books and getting more books to sell from all kinds of authors around New Alexandria.
In April of 1903 Clara wrote a lot of new books herself but also started getting her hands on a lot of different books from across the world hoping to share them with the people of New Alexandria. The Travelling Bookshelf becoming more and more known around the state every day that goes by.
In June of 1903 a lot of things changed for the owner, Clara. Because of all the recent changes she decided that her business does not have a specific place it works out of, but rather The Travelling Bookshelf is all of New Alexandria and she simply prints the books in Saint Denis.
In August of 1903 Clara started the official Travelling Bookshelf Book Club.
In September of 1903 The Travelling Bookshelf officially moved location to Blackwater. All the printing, binding and publishing of T.T.B's books now takes place in Blackwater.
On the 12th of October 1903 The Travelling Bookshelf held it's 1 Year Anniversary Masquerade Ball which was attended by many, it became a huge success with fun games and company. Everyone who bought a ticket received a card with a character on it which they had to dress as and pretend to be! The idea of the whole anniversary was given to Clara by Imogene Harrison!
In early November 1903 the Travelling Bookshelf also got paid a huge amount of money for a copy of each book to be printed and delivered to Sisika Penitentiary. Faolain Lancaster reached out to Clara Ambrose about this matter and she quickly got to work to make this happen, her books were a big addition to the prison library.
As of December 1st, 1903, The Travelling Bookshelf officially moved it's business location to Strawberry.
At the end of 1903 The Travelling Bookshelf had a inventory containing 67 different books of multiple genres from multiple different authors.
