Ulrich David Braun is the first son of Caroline and Tobias Braun. He was born in Beechworth, Victoria in Australia and has a somewhat muted Australian accent. He is tall, blonde with blue eyes and is a spitting image of his father. He has quite an athletic build and is often seen in an outfit some might describe as hideous. A scar can be seen across his left eye from a bird-related incident in his childhood. Ulrich is an incredibly loyal and loving person who moved to New Alexandria after the loss of his younger brother Thomas, in an attempt to live up to his brother's legacy.

Early Life

Caroline Braun (nee. Taylor) was born in the United Kingdom but moved to Australia with her father during the Gold Rush where she would grow up, meet and fall in love with Tobias Braun, a tall blonde German man. The two were wed and settled down in Beechworth, which at the time was winding down after years of prosperity from discoveries of gold in the region. They had two children together, the first being Ulrich David Braun who was born on July 7, 1876 with no complications. A few years later on July 14, 1879 Thomas George Braun was born.

Ulrich and Thomas had their early childhood memories in Beechworth before the family relocated slightly further away to a small town called Whorouly where Ulrich was enrolled alongside his brother at Whorouly Primary School, when Ulrich was 10 years old. Ulrich spent just a few years at an actual school before he began assisting his mother with duties at home as she fell ill.

Ulrich's family were not very wealthy, choosing to live off of the land. He spent his teenage years and early adult years helping his family manage their small cottage and small plot of farmland. He would spend his downtime fishing in a local creek and making trips to the local general store to buy and sell produce they had grown or caught, which was a several hour commute by foot.

As a child, Ulrich was taught the importance of peace and non violence by his parents, who were devout pacifists. They instilled in him that he should only ever use violence in self defense, but warned that violence only begets more violence. Because of this, Ulrich landed in New Alexandria with very little skill in weaponry and self defense. Ulrich advocates for peaceful solutions to conflicts, even in the face of opposition.

In December of 1901, Ulrich's younger brother Thomas returned from his latest adventure in Europe. After a few weeks of being back at home, Ulrich discovered Thomas' body hanging with rope around his neck in a nearby hay shed to the family cottage. Thomas was pronounced dead shortly after. His funeral was held on January 6, 1902. At his brother's funeral, people spoke of Thomas fondly and Ulrich learned of many of the adventures his brother had been on. It was then that Ulrich realised that he had no adventures to call his own and that if he died soon, he wouldn't have anyone or anything interesting said at his own funeral.

Present Life

Arriving in New Alexandria
Ulrich arrived in New Alexandria by boat, setting foot on US soil in Blackwater on May 5th, 1902 alongside Lucina Conan (nee. Knox) whom he had met on the boat from Australia. Ulrich had spent his first weeks in New Alexandria with Lucina working at Braithwaite, picking apples. His first month was spent meeting new people, going on new adventures and finding his feet in the United States. Ulrich would eventually begin to carry a sidearm for his own protection and taking on a more permanent position chopping lumber at Monto's Rest.

During his first month in state Ulrich was impaled on a bridge, began smoking cigarettes, raised money for Blackwater Hopsital, learned how to play Blackjack and almost killed Circuit Judge Ash Conan in an unfortunate sledding accident. In early June he began writing a journal of his adventures, with accompanying sketches. The journal is formatted as letters to his younger brother.

Ulrich would be introduced to Anderson "Andy" Pink on May 10th, 1902 - just a handful of days after arriving in state. Ulrich knew almost immediately that Andy was different. Ulrich began to develop romantic feelings for Andy soon after and would confess these feelings to Andy on May 28th. Ulrich and Andy's relationship was developed over time in a very unconventional way, with Ulrich sometimes unsure of where their relationship stood. This all changed on Ulrich's 26th birthday when they kissed for the first time. Ulrich would later have a conversation with Andy where Andy revealed that he was actually in a criminal gang and wanting to put that behind him to be with Ulrich.

Sky Pony Ranch in New Austin
After several months of attempting to spark romance between the pair, Ulrich and Andy began dating and soon after established Sky Pony Ranch together, south of Armadillo in New Austin. The Ranch was founded as a "relief ranch" and aims to be a charitable organisation. This was inspired by Andy's upbringing on his own ranch, where his mother would often donate milk to expecting mothers. Sky Pony Ranch was officially founded on July 16, 1902. Andy and Ulrich continue to live happily with their "cloud" cows, taking a slower approach to life.

Livestock Commission
Ulrich joined the New Alexandria Livestock Commission in November 1902, one of his long term aspirations come true. Ulrich spent the majority of his time as an Agent with the commission designing and redesigning documentation and posters, which include the Livestock Commission business cards that can often be seen pinned up around state. In early 1903, he would spearhead the Livestock Commission Newsletter, becoming editor in chief. After approximately nine months as a Livestock Agent, Ulrich would be appointed to Livestock Commissioner by Governor Harrison on August 20, 1903, following the retirement of Commissioner Alderson.
