Description
The Wapiti Nation strive for peace and prosperity.
They live by specific values in which they uphold everyday.
They prefer to live with those around them rather than destroy.
The Wapiti members can be identified by their sashes; blue for Wapiti Full Bloods and green for New Bloods. This changed with the leadership of Lillith Makawee, who, after the first people formed a united front, (and by vote of the members) opted not to wear the sashes unless for ceremony, official conduct or celebrations/wars and/or around reservation/historical territory - It is a motion of solidarity for all first peoples.
History
The Wapiti Nation was first officially established by Chief DeerHorn at the time once Chief Tecumseh took the Shawnee name with him to Tall Trees.
Chief Deerhorn: DeerHorn was voted in as Chief of Wapiti Nation - under his leadership and guidance the Wapiti thrived. Deerhorn then sought out to secure a stable relationship with the Government which in time he did. With this DeerHorn established a better and lasting treaty with the Government under Governess Addison Flanagan.
With this new treaty the Wapiti Nation would gain more land, be an independent state and recognized as a Nation. This treaty would mean the Wapiti Nation would have their own laws and regulation with no interference from the Government.
Chief Shadow Bear: On the night of the signing of Window Rock Treaty, Shadow Bear was elected Chief and signed it as such. Shadow has made sure to pass along the knowledge and wisdom of the Chiefs before him to keep the culture and history alive. Under his leadership Chief Shadow Bear has expanded the strength of Wapiti with a kind, fair, but firm hand. Strong relationships were formed which holds true to this day.
Chief Tsaa Totsiyaa: With the signing of the Native Nation Treaty, Shadow Bear nominated his sister Tsaa Totsiyaa as Chief - which the tribe voted for as well. Tsaa Totsiyaa achieved peace after a long and bloodied war with various threats; ensuring that the Native Nations finds a foothold in history. She secured the future of the Wapiti before stepping away from Native affairs and leaving state.
Chief Lillith Makawee & Chief Black Hoof: After a long absence from New Alexandria, Lillith Makawee returned to State. Met by a handful of Wapiti and after serious discussions, Lillith was voted in by the remainingmembers as Chief. She restored the ties and Passed her Chieftainship to Black Hoof, who cemented the relations and guided their people through the political pitfalls. Having achieved their goals, they stepped down and passed the torch to the 'New Generation' of Wapiti. A vote was casted and thus the people elected Wasechun Tashunka to take on transitional responsibilities as interrum chief.
Chief Pelo ea Tau (Heart of Lion) was voted in as new Chief. More commonly known as Tau, this new chief brough strong commanche discipline and honesty to the tribe. He guides his people with a firm and fair hand all the while maintiaining true Wapiti customs, integrity and hospitality as earned. Wapiti, are less in the public eye after govermental treaty ties were severed.
