Description
Sonny has changed substantially throughout the years, going by many different names and many different faces, depending on the needs of his environment. Generally he is a younger man of small, thin stature with light blonde hair and drab blue eyes. His body is very heavily scarred (See injury chapter) but will occasionally cover up the most visible scars with heavy makeup, masks, and clothing, spurred on by self consciousness. He wears three black lines under his left eye tattooed by Rocket Moody, both as an insult to the religion he left behind and an effort to distract from the marks across his face. Clothing wise it changes as much as his face. He often prefers wide brimmed hats and a cooler color pallet to his clothes that are often more aesthetic than practical.
Personality
It all depends on what side of Sonny you end up on. On the inside he is noted for being unstable and incredibly manipulative at times. He likes to try and care for people but has a tendency to get angry, make bad decisions, and ultimately ruin whatever he has going. Mix this with caring for very few and you get the worst of Sonny. A pattern repeated way more times than he'd ever admit. He is afflicted by ego, blood lust and has an affinity for violence. He likes to socialize but struggles being around lots of people, often forming a deeply unhealthy obsession with a single person and leaning on them for everything. He tends to put people into the context of family hierarchies to better understand his place, leading to a lot of dysfunctional relationships.
On the outside he seems sociable, good humored, yet chaotic. Quickly building up friendships with people who have yet to see the other side of him. He keeps a close network of acquaintances and friends, though rarely socializes with them. People very rarely see the other side of him, viewing him as troubled but with good intentions. Whether he’s self-aware is unknown
Name
Born under the name Amos Coltrane, Sonny was named Cosmo Cotton by who would become his family in England. He was then adopted as Cosmo Dawson sometime into his stay in New Alexandria to show his loyalty to a new family he took care of him, before that then being changed to Cosmo Kray to show allegiance to the Kray Gang. Sometime after the dismantling of the gang he sought to change it to something completely unrelated to his violent past in an effort to move on. Thus taking on the name Sonny Harris (ironically a gang alias). Later on he married
Lip Darmon and took on his surname. He considers Sonny and Cosmo different people although he is referred to by both names and I keep forgetting.
tl:dr Sonny and Cosmo are the same person. I'm just lazy.
Early Life
Sonny was born Amos Coltrane to a couple in the Canterbury area of England- he remembers very little of this as at a young age he was abducted and bought more North to a community called Oak in the rural countryside. They exhibited cultish behaviors and lived away from the rest of the world; they dedicated their time to pleasing a deity manifested as the sun under the extreme superstition that if they did not the world would end. Cosmo was bought into this along with 19 brothers and 20 sisters with two figure heads who oversaw the community. After his closest sibling was killed, in a fit of rage and naivety Cosmo set alight to the church before running from the blaze unsure if any of them survived- this is the background Cotton came to state with.
Present Life
[OOC: I am going off of memory here so things may not be perfectly accurate. Do let me know if anything is glaringly incorrect. Been playing this fuck too long.]
Chapter 1- Cosmo Cotton the Innocent
- Praise the Sun
Upon first arriving via boat he was not aware he was in America till many many months later. Curious and fascinated he roamed the tracks but not a day into his new found life he was corned and robbed by the Devil Boys. Sparking a deep fascination with the criminal underworld that prevailed in this land. He went town to town during the days seeking leaders of gangs to learn, befriend and paint them. He would befriend the likes of Daniel Clarkson, Elias Springfield and Percy Kray during this period, having painted them all for the collection and set up foundations with The Boston Blinders, Hagens, and Sky gang. Between this he'd attempt to grow friendships within the week with strangers... all in an effort to sacrifice them come the Sunday believing he needed too in order to keep the world in balance and fearing for his life if he did not obey. Though he never did complete the task, getting overpowered or feeling sorry for the pleading victim. One of those who he grew close to was Dowa Shaw who'd take the young, lost Cosmo under her wing as a son. Later adopting him and becoming first of many obsessions.
- Alliances
Eventually he'd settle and find a place in state. First being taken in by Warren Rosswell in an effort to restart the formerly disbanded Grimms, he'd have his first involvement with crime. Standing by his side and learning how to shoot, ride, and make his way through a tougher state but was still bound by the old ways of his religion which would ultimately tear their relationship apart as Cosmo attempted to sacrifice him and other member Abilene Morganstern. Soon after he'd befriend a man called Chance Dawson and his friend Everette Dufresne, members of a collective called the Sullen Epitaph which would soon form the Commune with members Apollo Alovich, Evaline Sanderson, Wyatt Clay, Everette Enderby, John Gallows, Katerina Kane and Spencer York (and many many more). It was sometime into this he was taken by a man known as the Fool, and briefly tortured before having an Oleander laced arrow shot through his kidney. This bought him closer to the commune and created a brief period of seeking friendships with strangers as paranoia began to grow and he started to form a dark idea of what New Alexandria had in store for Cotton.
- Monsters in the Closet
It was though this period of seeking friends that he learned another harsh lesson- never trust a stranger. When he was taken by the Brotherhood in an effort to help a stranger. He was taken and held for many days for the simple reason of torture. During this time his faith was stripped from him and he believe his soul was taken from being forced to consume human flesh and kill innocents, a memory that never left Sonny. The resulting injuries left him unable to walk from shattered legs and ribs and lacking the ability to feel pain as a result of a fracture to the base of his skull. He'd spend nearly a month in recovery being looked after by Chance Dawson. An obsession with the man who he called his brother beginning to grow that soon turned to burning selfish jealousy as he recovered from the wounds. He'd start to grow distant to the commune and Dowa but closer to a select few. It was for them he'd find himself stepping up and growing a habit of violence and anger, spurred on by Dawson's own madness. Leading to him being kicked out of the Commune due to conflicts and fights.
- Fickle Family
Eventually the Commune would break down entirely. The leaders going their separate ways from those who were closest to Cosmo. The remaining group he'd claim as his family and become fiercely possessive and protective over his brother figure Chance. During this time an old relative of the latter came into state, prompting many days of manhunting which saw both Chance and Cosmo grow familiar with Percy Kray and a more aggressive way of being, tempting a slowly building blood lust in Cosmo along with a drawn out feud with another cannibal during his hunt for those who had kept him captive. Eventually this came to pass and things started to simmer back to normality, though Cotton would never be the same now he had tasted the adrenaline of the hunt. During this period of unrest he’d add a few more friends to his collection. Florence Blackwood, a herbalist who he grow close with first, and his first ever lover Agwe Dunsha.
- I Have Stopped Loving You
The remaining members formed a small group they simply called 'the core' an amalgamation of Evaline Sanderson, Apollo Alovich, Chance Dawson, John Galows and Cosmo. They'd become close together but find conflict at nearly every turn. Starting with threats left to Evaline in the form of dismembered pig parts, followed by an old member of the former group antagonizing them sadistically, leading to a heated argument and shootout which nearly killed Chance and injured Cosmo and Evaline. This reignited Cosmo's passion and fascination with gangs along with his growing friendship with Percy and Sal Sullivan. Straining his relationship with his family even further as he desperation for praise grew. Arguments became fights and somewhere in the middle he was taken once more by his brother Calypso and briefly blinded. As a result John killed the fanatic under Cosmo's orders, pushing him to the edge. In an effort to salvage their relationship Chance made an effort to adopt Cosmo to continue to twist his love, but this was very short lived as he begun to realize the family could no longer sate his desire for affection, praise and blood. So he turned to the friends he had begun to love- The Krays.
Chapter 2- Cosmo Kray the Criminal
Cosmo sought
The Krays out on their return to state, having remembered his prior interactions and idealisation of Percy Kray he approached the gang and was quickly taken in. He renounced his prior allegiance to the ‘Core’ and fell in deep immediately. Their praise lured in the young Cosmo and made him malleable, soon he started up
The Four Horsemen Saloon as a base of operations for the returning gang. At first he tried to keep his allegiance a secret, going under his nickname ‘Toothpick’ and staying silent but hiding a short blonde man with an attitude proved tricker than that and it wasn’t long till he was out. Around this time the leader, Aiden Kray, had begun to form a paternal bpnd to the young member and wanting the love it was reciprocated, leading to the informal and later adoption of Cosmo. Throughout the operations of the Saloon perhaps the most important people in Sonny’s life would walk through those doors. In the beginning he’d hire nearly anyone and amongst those were Tod Jones, Jacco Vinke, Agatha Baumstampf, and
Lip Darmon. The three would form the first core employees of
The Four Horsemen Saloon. Jacco and Lip coming in off the streets, and Tod looking for purpose (later being kicked out due to the contagious paranoia of Constantino Kray which loomed over the Bar). Things were far from smooth sailing though as operating a bar and trying to support a gang rarely does. Tensions had again began to rise as conflict grew, especially between Cosmo, the Employees, and another member of which ended with him gaining permission from Aiden to kill his newly adopted Son in a duel. A duel that never happened but permanently broke the bridge between them and started to set the distrust of members in action.
- The Path is Paved with Blood
It was after this conflict and a prior lost gunfight with the Firing Line that Cosmo began to feel inferior and undertrained for this new position. Attempting again to push away employees but to little avail. At this time they had gained another two very import figures, Brath Macwell, and
Lars Stefan. These two had opened up a restaurant across the road from the Saloon but had quickly been dragged into the gang affairs with Lars being appointed as Cosmo’s bodyguard at gunpoint. Amidst all of this Cosmo’s ego had been inflated and he began trying to expand the operations of the Horseman, opening up the aforementioned restaurant as the Crazy Horse Diner and attempting to open a herbalist shop known as the Summerhouse bringing Echo Wolfe,
Boyd Langston and Timothy Langston (amongst many others) into the employee fold. On a personal front as the gang grew more chaotic and more confrontational Aiden began to spiral much like his father did. With each passing conflict he descended further into a paranoid madness, not helped by the gang activities. Cosmo tried to help as much as he could, but after a firefight left the leader in a coma he would almost completely snap upon recovering and set the gang on a futile chase testing Cosmo’s loyalities and ending in a mock execution of his own son. Though this cemented his role by Aiden’s side it also broke any self worth the boy had.

Affiliations
The Grimms [Former]
A short affiliation but one that formed a rocky foundation for the entirety of his life in New Alexandria. New to state he was bough into the waning gang by Warren Rosswell and served by them for a little while before it's quick demise. Despite this he made a few friends along the way including Taras Volkov, and Abilene Morgenstern and was taught to ride and shoot within the small group.
The Commune [Former]
The Commune was a collective of businessmen and civilians looking out for one another. Spearheaded by Everette Dufresne and Chance Dawson, it was this group that split off to become his closest friends and family after its end in Chapter 1. It also served as the death of his faith
The Krays [Former]
Arguably his most influential affiliation is his namesake. Having joined the gang with the intention to support the remaining Commune members through business he very soon found his place amongst the group. Being adopted by Aiden Kray and fighting alongside them during their return to New Alexandria and continuing after their death in 1901. He holds a burning hatred for most of the remaining members for leaving him after the death of his father, thus abandoning the name and affiliation though reminisces on his time with them with rose tinted glasses and an over-inflated ego
The Fish [Former]
Though never formally a fish, he had attempted to assist the group on quite a few occasions. Being very close with Navy on multiple occasions he had lied for the group to keep the members safe. In later months he informally took on the name 'Kray Fish' or 'Maroon Fish' when in hiding with Navy, Night and Honey. In present times, and after the death of Maple and his dear friend he grew a burning hatred to the rest. Especially Honey and Cobalt. In later chapters Sonny finds himself reminiscing on his times with the Fish, and the so called ‘glory days’ going so far as to adopt the identity of Navy Fish as an alias.
The Four Horsemen [Former Employee]
During the start of his affiliation with The Krays, Cosmo was tasked with starting up their main front business. Taking over the Bastille in Saint Denis by the name of The Four Horsemen Saloon. He'd run it for many months both during and after the gang. Here he took nearly anyone under his wing as employees to the business. His employees grew to be close friends especially in the case of Lip Darmon, Jacco Vinke, Agatha Baumstumpf, Lars Stefan, and many others. The former would eventually take over the business and the subsidiaries continuing to grow the brand way beyond Cosmo's capabilities. Though he came and went out of the Horsemen's lives he still holds them very dear and finds himself back with them in the later chapters.
The Castillo's [Former]
The Castillo's came into Cosmo's life perhaps at the worst moment, the Krays were starting to downspiral and he found himself in the middle of the paranoid lies and manipulations of the gang, leading to conflict and tension with the new family trying to establish themselves in Saint Denis. He saw them as another violent entity that threatened to take over the saloon, and this carried on way past his ownership of the Horsemen until he was proven otherwise through exposure and seeing the group help his friends. From there on he attempted to assist the group to build up a passive relationship and slowly mellow tensions. He found himself counsel to Archer Cassidy and this became his stepping point to befriending the group. Soon some of his closest friends, Lars and Jacco joined with the group and he found himself becoming close friends with many of the high ranking members. Though, like many gangs before, this was not to last. Soon the gang tore itself apart through a web of lies and deception resulting in the death of Lars Stefan and the disownment of Jacco Vinke along with the torture of his husband. Sonny would vow with the death of the Castillo’s to never trust a gang again
The Jackdaws [‘Affiliate’]
Family
Though born to a conventional family, he was quickly bought into dysfunction which would shape the rest of his life. From an early age he was taken into a cult-like community with 39 other young people, overseen by two leaders. Of those 41 family members, 4 are known to have survived and two remain as siblings. Jupiter Cotton and Meadow Cotton. These are his only known family from this era.
Moving into New Alexandria he sought new family obsessively with a fixation on hierarchy and praise through them, leading to one of the most fucked up, spaghetti-like family trees I think is possible. It became genuinely tricky to discern who Sonny was not technically related to. But there were a decent few he considered family and still does to this day though he cares for very little he will use this to his advantage.

Trivia
Honses
Kayne- [Deceased]
Cosmo's favorite horse was a white-faced Fox Trotter called Kayne. A gang horse that belonged to his late father. Kayne had protected Cosmo through many events. Carried him half dead across the state and lay beside him when injured. He believed the soul of Aiden occupied the horse and was the reason for its demonic temperament towards others and caring nature to himself. Kayne was the only horse he has ever truly cared about. It was the only horse he could ride due to the amount of bonding and training with the trotter. Kayne was executed by the Free State, the reason is unknown, but it’s believed he was simply used as leverage
Moo-
The official steed for the Olive Branch is a cheap mule he acquired called Moo. A simple pack mule he doubled up as a secondary steed but soon became his only means of transport after the death of the horse... it is also occasionally used to guard the explosives because who would be so cruel as to blow up a mule? Right?
Lard-
Given to him by close friend Lars Stefan, Lard serves as a main steed. A light brown Suffolk Punch with a docile temperament and massive appetite. Sonny has found it hard to bond to the horse ever since the demise of Kayne, but Lard was the closest to filling in that gap. He is noted for being overweight and eating just about anything hence his name.
Andy the Andalusian-
Yes, his official name is Andy the Andalusian. Andy was the former horse of
Nathan Blackwell but swapped a newly purchased Fox Trotter for the grey horse as the former had a habit of trying to Kill Lip. Andy is a lot more grumpy than Moo and Lard but serves the purpose as a faster horse.
Loup-
Religion
Cosmo grew up heavily religious with a fixation on the sun.
Belongings
-Teddy 1
A Teddy bear he bought for himself as a way to overcome his attachment issues and fear of abandonment. He carried the teddy bear everywhere strapped to his chest until he joined the Krays. At this point he handed it over to
John Galows when he was injured for good luck and comfort. Eventually it was returned by John as Cosmo began the process of healing from his brain damage.
-Teddy 2
A second teddy bear he bought for himself after seeing it discarded in the marketplace. Far more worn than the first he keeps it by his bed along with the original teddy.
-Oleander
Cosmo always carries a small tin of ground up oleander flower in a tobacco tin. He keeps it in his pocket at all times in case of capture to poison those who have taken him should the opportunity arise. He's often given oleander to those closest to him for the same reason- fueled by paranoia.
-Weapons
*His main sidearm is a simple, stock Volcanic pistol. Refusing to get it customized for fear of both loosing it and growing an attachment to the weapon like he did with his previous revolver. Inspired by Headin; Jacobs.
*He often prefers a bow over a rifle in most situations but struggles to draw it back. It was a gift from Aiden Kray after being taught by him but is scarcely used now. It adorns 3 white stripes across one of the curves. It's name is Violet
*One of the only relics from England that he still carries is a simple hunting knife. A sharp knife with the word 'Kindness' etched into the blade. A reminder to not be cruel when taking the life of another. The knife is nameless.
(He started to name his weapons after meeting a strange cowboy at Flatneck with admiration and love for his weapons)
-Pebbles
Inspired by Navy he keeps a bag of small stones in his satchel or saddle bags containing the engraved initials of everyone who he wishes to remember who has passed. He'll often give engraved rocks to those he cares about so he can keep track of who's alive and who's dead should his mind ever slip again. A fear bought on by
Alexander Crane.
-Journal/Paintings
Cosmo always keeps a journal, frightened that any day could be his last. In earlier chapters it was mainly to just get his thoughts and worries down on the page, but later on it is to be read by people in the case of his demise. There are often notes for people, wills, amendments and apologies. Spurred on by Wyatt Connington suggesting that his journal could've saved his deceased father.
One of his favored pass times used to be painting. Starting off with cigarette cards to gain favorable connections with gangs to posters for his
Businesses. All told he has pained over 50 various pieces during his time in state.
Cosmo's Journals
Habits
-Singing or humming whilst shooting (especially in high-stress situations)
A trait he adopted from his time with the Commune, he may be heard singing or humming when in the heat of a gunfight or fending off wolves. Cosmo claims it helps keep his hands still and detach himself from the situation.
-Chewing
Cosmo often chews heavily at his sleeves, gloves, or fingernails. In the past whilst his ability to feel pain was heavily reduced he'd chew his lips to the point of bleeding as a nervous habit. During recovery he liked to chew a leather strip dipped in strawberry syrup.
Injuries
Nearly the entirety of Cosmo's body is scarred, but primarily his face which is the most heavily marked. Almost all are inflicted by people.
Additionally he is missing an ear, a Kidney, and multiple teeth.
During his days with the Krays he took to wearing a medical birdcage around his torso in order to try and reduce shrapnel and buckshot damage which had the added affect of being able to practice more aggressive knife fighting. Along with leather wraps around his forearms to try and prevent being bitten by wolves
Cosmo additionally suffers from brain damage bought on after a stress-induced stroke that left the left side of his body with reduced feeling, weakness, and partial paralysis. He cannot use bows anymore and struggles with heavy long arms as a result of the injury. Having to walk with a cane
